Introduction: Boredom

***EDIT***

OMG OMG OMG! Remember a looooooong time ago, when I posted a rant, and I said that there was an icon of an angry smilie face banging his head against a brick wall??? I FOUND IT!!!
ISN'T HE CUTE?? Okay, back to your regularly scheduled blogram. :)

***EDIT END***

If you don't know the whole back story on this, go HERE.

If you do, here is your "brief taste." Enjoy, and tell me what you think!

Bored. That one word seemed to be on repeat through Joey’s mind. He leaned forward and folded his arms on the table as his eyes darted around the room. More than once they came to rest on the ceiling fan, a pang of jealousy shooting through him as he watched the blades spin around. They weren’t moving fast, but they were at least doing something, instead of sitting in the room, doing nothing, being absolutely, utterly

“Bored,” he mumbled. He felt a yawn in the back of his throat and buried his face in his folded arms to hide it. As he lifted his head, he saw a few of the other guys talking and laughing on the other side of the room. He thought about going over and joining the conversation, but he had a feeling he wouldn’t be any less bored than he was now. He put his face back into his arms and sighed.

“QUIET!” Someone shouted behind him, and Joey laughed without lifting his head.

“I didn’t say anything,” was his muffled reply.

“I know,” Donnie said, falling into a chair next to him. “I said you were quiet.”

“No, you said quiet.”

“Same thing.” Joey smiled and lifted his head.

“Not really,” he said.

“What’s wrong?” Donnie asked, blowing off Joey’s retort. Joey shrugged, his eyes once again going to the ceiling fan.

“I’m bored,” he said absently, his eyes slowly following one of the blades.

“Do something,” Donnie said, shrugging.

“Oh…. Oh that’s a good idea. Wonder why I didn’t think of that.”

“Because you aren’t me,” he shot back, his voice soaked with just as much sarcasm.

“Thank God,” Joey said, grinning wickedly as he did so.

“For what?” Jordan asked, joining the two at the table. Without hesitating, they both smiled at him.

“For not being you,” they said at the same time. Jordan mocked laughter, then smiled despite himself.

“Is anyone else bored out of their mind?” he asked the room.

“God, yeeeeeeeeeeees!” Joey shouted before he could catch himself. All eyes in the room darted to him, and his eyes quickly went back to the ceiling fan. “Any….anyone else?” Donnie laughed and clapped him on the back, then nodded.

“I am.”

“Do something,” Joey shot back.

“I vote we beat up Joey,” Donnie said without hesitation.

“I vote we stay bored,” Joey said quickly. Donnie laughed and shook his head.

“You think we’d be able to find something to do on a Friday night,” Jordan said, frowning.

“The problem isn’t finding something to do,” Jon said, looking at a few CDs near the back wall. “It’s finding something to do where we can be sure we won’t die.” They laughed, but Joey knew it wasn’t real laughter. What Jon had said was true – they were still adjusting to the being chased aspect of being a New Kid – the being wanted part. That was a big reason why they were constantly bored. Joey looked around the room, taking in each face, each expression. The mood had changed – Jon’s statement had killed any chance they had of actually doing something. Joey once again looked at the ceiling fan, it’s blades cutting slowly through the air, still tracing the same path. He decided the fan wasn’t having any more fun than he was, and he wasn’t jealous of it anymore.

“I’d get dizzy,” he muttered. Donnie looked at him, but Joey’s eyes never left the fan. They had rallied to do something, than backed down. He finally returned to look at everyone again, decide if he was making the right choice. He looked at Donnie last, jumping a bit to see he was still staring at him with a puzzled look on his face. As if reading his mind, Donnie nodded, and Joey made his decision. He’d be damned if a few screaming girls were going to keep him locked in a room for the rest of his life.

“What’s on your mind, McIntyre?” Donnie said, turning everyone’s attention to the youngest member of the group.

“I was just thinking,” he said, glancing once more at the fan. “I was just thinking – if we died today, at least it’d be by something more interesting than boredom.” He watched as Jordan, Donnie, and Danny made eye contact, smiling and nodding.

“Good point,” Jordan said, turning his gaze back to Joey. “I’m in.”

“Me too,” Danny said.

“You don’t even have to ask,” Donnie said, clapping Joey on the back again. They all looked at Jon, who had since put down the CDs but had remained against the back wall. He looked at all their faces – eager, hopeful, excited. No matter the age, they were all very much still children, and the expressions on their faces made them look like preteens again. Jon took a breath, not wanting to go anywhere outside the safety of the room. His eyes went from face to face, taking in each look – Jordan’s pleading expression, Danny’s carefree attitude, Donnie’s recklessness – and his eyes came to rest on Joey. Joey’s face held nothing but worry – he knew he could easily be overturned by the oldest member of the group, but he could also read what Joey was trying to tell him. They had been together for years, spent nearly every minute together… if they were going to die, why not do THAT together, as well? Jon let out sigh, and shook his head.

“Alright,” he said, and the room erupted with cheers and high fives. Joey turned back to everyone, excitement welling up inside him, and his lips twisted into a child-like grin that spread from ear to ear.

“Let’s get this!” He said, and everyone nodded, returning his smile.

I'm so excited.... and I just can't hide....

Okay - I'm posting this now because I don't have a lot of time... I didn't do my morning rituals and the robots broke free of their mythical binds... the world is ending soon and... er... I mean... I have to be at the church at 3 for dress rehearsal, then I'm going to see a play at the playhouse afterward... I'll be out most of the day.

But - I'm still on a huge fangirl freakout act like you're three years old high.

A while ago, I posted a picture that I simply called, "thanks, Facebook." It was a screenshot of Facebook not only calling me a whore, but telling me that 2 people I knew hated me... it wasn't very nice, and killed the self esteem. Now - Facebook and I have never gotten along very well... I always talk bad about it to it's face, and it kicks me from chat all the time, and deletes some of my friends without asking me. But that... that was just OVER THE LINE. Too far!!! It was rude, and it hurt my feelings... *for those of you who didn't see the picture, click HERE*

But, I'm here to tell you that on this glorious day - Dec. 13th, 2008 - I am THANKFUL FOR FACEBOOK...chat. Yeah, eat that, Facebook, I'm just using you for your chat function!!! XP

Last night, I couldn't sleep - I haven't been able to the past few nights, but last night I was lucky enough to have had the chance to chat with my friend Leslie from Texas... she finally found me on facebook and we were catching up and making fun of Twilighters (sorry, Ana. I still love you), and I was waiting to see if any of my other friends would come online so I could ask them when they were coming home. As I click the little friend list, who do I see online but none other than New Kids on the Block's Jordan Knight!! I was like, hey, cool! He's on his facebook!!! So, being the person that I am, I sent him a message...

"Um... you don't have to reply to this, but I figured I'd say hi and wish you a Merry Christmas and hope everything is going well! :)"

I minimized the window and went on my way. I pretty much figured he wouldn't reply - but dangit, I wasn't missing my chance to say hi and wish him a happy holiday!! I had already missed 3 in the past and wasn't giving up another one! I was looking at my page a bit later and noticed that it was ABSOLUTELY LITTERED with flair, so I tell Leslie how sickening that is... except I sent it to Jordan instead of Leslie. I quickly covered my tracks, apologizing, wrong window, etc. etc. I do this ALL THE TIME and you think I would have learned by now to MAKE SURE I'M SENDING THE MESSAGE TO THE RIGHT PERSON! *shakes head* But I haven't... I was actually kind of embarrassed, and hoped I was intruding on a conversation he was having with someone else... cuz I got the little "typing... oh wait... not here" thing. ((People who talk on AIM know what I'm talking about... it's annoying when it happens to you, and I try not to do it to other people)) So I sent the message to Leslie and jumped into another tab and started doing something else... I can't even remember what I was doing, probably blogging or something.

Does anyone use facebook chat? Don't lie, I know some of you do... so some of you know that, when you get a new message, facebook goes POP. lol. It's actually a cute little sound, if I may say so myself. I stopped what I was doing and was like, oh, Leslie replied... went to facebook, and clicked in Leslie's box. No. Reply. I was like, WHAT? But then my eye catches another chat tab, with a little red bubble containing a white #1... and I was like, who else was I chatting with??? I heard the same POP, but this time it was my brain remembering that I had sent a message to Jordan Knight!!! I just kind of stared at the screen, then opened the chat box.

He didn't SAY anything, but he sent a smilie, which made ME smile... it meant that I hadn't pissed him off by interrupting his conversation... lol. PLUS, it wasn't just ANY smilie, it was a smilie from Jordan Knight!!! This is a NEW KID, people! A member of a band that I've secretly loved for years! It wasn't a hello or anything like that, but it was a SMILE - which meant that I might have made him ACTUALLY smile... and if you have any idea who Jordan Knight is - boy has a KILLER smile.... lol.

I was extremely excited... it wasn't a lot, but after so many years, it was SO exciting! Of course, it's gotta be something like 2 in the morning, so I can't scream, I can't run around the house, and NO ONE is online to scream to. (Except poor Jordan - I think I screamed at her for a good half hour... hahaha... oh... Jordan's a friend, not Jordan Knight... haha) Now, I had had a small chat with Warren Barfield the night before, but this was different... I've met Warren twice and seen him in concert thrice. The closest I've ever gotten to any of the New Kids was missing them by a day in San Jose this year... and I had been told by that point that New Kids had pulled a Menudo and "recasted" so to speak, and the only mention of them at all on that trip was me pissed off that it was all new guys... It's true, I have it on video... LOL (It's also the closest I came to coming out of the closet as a New Kids fan, before I found out they were back... now you can't get me to shut up ha!)

So this... this was HUGE for me.

So thank you, Facebook chat! Thank you for giving me the chance to be smiled upon by Jordan Knight - now, it's no smile from Donnie, but it's a smile from a New Kid, and I know when to stop asking for more and just be thankful for what I've been given!!! (Of course, if someone upstairs ever wants to align the stars and give me a chance to talk to Donnie, I'm not fighting, either... just sayin')

I'm still excited.... :D

Okay, geeky retard fangirl blog DONE.

Get ya mind right!!!

~L.

P.S. Started watching Max Payne... Mark is doing a great job, but... I don't know if even his acting can save this movie. I mean... NATASHA??? REALLY?? Thanks, writers... thanks so much. Grrr... Also thought I'd let you all know, I've decided to start hiding Easter Eggs in my blogs... there's one in the last blog, and I'm going to hide one in here, too. Easter eggs are basically hidden surprises, usually a picture, that is then linked to in the blog... but you have to find the link. :) Have fun!

Turn your phone off, be quiet on the set - you better know your lines cuz one take is all we get

Okay, so.... I'm posting this now because I don't know if I'll have a chance later in the day... I just got home from rehearsal for LOL. I know what you're saying...
"LAUREN!" You say, dropping your bowl of cheerios and not even caring about the mess it makes as it shatters on the floor. "12:30 - that's so LATE!"

But fear not - it IS late, but the rehearsal was not that long... we were suppose to be there at 9.

I can see you now - freezing as you clean up your mashed cheerios/broken bowl/spilled milk mess. "NINE?" you say. "AS IN PM?"

Yes - PM... and please, stop yelling... I'm right here. I can hear you just fine. You see, there were some musicians in the theater until 9, and we had to put the set together after they left... and this is where the blog post comes in...

I'm thankful for moments that put things into perspective.

I was talking to my friend Donna today - I don't want to say I was complaining, but I kind of was... Sarah called me on it the other day, I was whining because I couldn't get a scene memorized... I got it, by the way, Sarah... haha. Anyway - I was complaining. Donna's a great chick - and she's one of the girls that I can just joke around with - so I was talking about my latest blog post and she made the mistake of asking me how I was doing... here's the conversation:

Lauren

I finally posted a blog post that didn't mention Donnie AT ALL

8:48pmDonna

O WOW!! that's big news go u!!

8:57pmLauren

lol

8:57pmDonna

well good luck with all of this and i hope you can get a break soon

I was in a very woe is me mood - kind of like, why why why why why why WHY did I sign on for so much at once?? I was tired, and I was dreading today... I still kind of am, but... well, let's continue.

Because I need to learn 3 plays, I usually will try to flush my mind between rehearsals. In other words - do one play, then do something completely mind numbing, and remind myself of the next play, run through that till I have it down, and repeat. I didn't really have a lot to do, so I ended up digging through any NKOTB blogs that I hadn't read while I was on break and what not, and the first one I read was called simply, "Grateful." The reason it caught my eye is because of NaBloPoMo - the theme for December is thanks, and it's always nice to read up on stuff and get an idea of what other people are thankful for... perhaps have a moment where you go, OH YEAH, I'm thankful for that, too! So I started reading it - Jordan Knight wrote it, and as I read it, I was just struck with this sudden feeling of SUCK IT UP.

"WHY?" I hear you ask, having finally cleaned up your spilled cheerio fiasco. And, if I may point out, you're still yelling. I realize that the sun may be up while you're reading this, but let's face it, if you're reading it and you aren't in church, then it's real early and people may be sleeping. You need to be more considerate. If you ask nicely, I'll tell you. "...why?" That's better. Here is the first paragraph of the blog - as you read it, you may see a few comparisons to a conversation you read seconds before... lol.

After the show in Vancouver I was talking to a fan- I really don’t
like referring to people as fans, so lets say supporter… That feels
better.
So anyway, I was talking about how after the Seattle show (the
following night) we have to get on a plane at 1 in the morning, then
land in LA at 4 am then be up at 7:30 am for soundcheck at the AMA’s
and then fittings and then a run thru and then try to get a couple
hours sleep before getting ready for red carpet and then the awards
show at 5 pm and then we are the second performance of the night.
Now when I was saying it, I wasn’t really complaining but I guess I
had a little “whoa is me” in my voice, maybe a little dramatic.
And she very dryly said “nice life” with a tad of sarcasm. I got a
good chuckle at it. I’ve felt that I have been rightly grateful thru
out for all the amazing things that have happened to me/us, but it’s
always funny to be checked up on.

SEE? Yeah, I know... what are the odds? It was one of those things where I just had to give props to God, give him the ole nod and just say, alright, I hear ya.

The thing that really jumped out at me was this line: "I've felt that I've been rightly grateful thru out for all the amazing things that have happened to me." It grabbed my attention because I realized, I haven't really been grateful for anything. I've just been very, ugh, I have to do this. Ugh, I have to do this. Ugh, I have to do this, this, this, and this. It's been a very blah attitude.

But - that one line made me step back and look at everything differently... I mean, I need to think about it. Instead of thinking, UGH I NEED TO MEMORIZE THREE PLAYS, I need to realize, WOW - I'm in 3 plays at once! It may not be my big break, but it at least says there are enough people in this town that think I'm somewhat talented when it comes to acting. Not to mention, all the practice I'm getting! I'm writing, directing, managing, etc. I'm making new friends, I'm expanding my creative horizons, and I'm making my name known. How can that be a bad thing??? Yes, it's going to be hard work, but lots of things are hard work - and the more work you put in, the more satisfaction you get when it's over.

I also realized that, dangit, if it was really as bad as I was claiming it to be, I would have given up a long time ago... I didn't, because whether I admit it or not, I love acting. I can complain until I'm blue in the face, but when it's all said and done, I'd much rather be on that stage making a fool out of myself then making buko bucks behind some desk.

I'm thankful I happened upon that blog - because, quite frankly, I needed that slap in the face, and I needed that wake up call. Thank you, Jordan, for putting things into perspective! And thank you everyone who has ever supported me, or put up with my whining. You guys are awesome! I hope to have some video of the plays, but no promises.

I'm now going to force myself to sleep - I'm going to need it. Tomorrow is going to be insane, but I have high hopes!!

Get ya mind right - I've finally got mine right! :)

The thought of SUMMERTIME just makes me CRAZY!!!

It's 11:30 at night, and I can't sleep. I was planning on going to bed, but I'm so excited right now that I don't even know what to do... I'm afraid to blog because I know the grammar will be horrible, and the whole thing will consist of few paragraphs and a plethora of run on sentences and mispelled words... but I have to do something, and dancing around the living room to Akon only lasted till the end of the song.

It's incredibally difficult to do the happy dance of grapes and awesomeness to Disturbia.

There are a number of my blog readers that won't care to read this - won't understand why I'm so excited, but there are also those of you that will dance around their living rooms with me, until Akon is done singing... lol.

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, blockheads, DCGs, and Sweet Potatoes alike -

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK HAVE CONFIRMED THEY ARE HAVING A SUMMER TOUR!!!

Don't get me wrong - I pretty much knew it was going to happen. You may remember, in an earlier post, I noted that there was a juicy piece of information I wasn't going to release for fear it would cause an uproar and get any tour cancelled. Well, here is the piece of information:

((I'm mildly distracted because Miley Cyrus is on the tv talking about how she is an obsessive texter and right now her voice is REALLY ANNOYING... OH BRB HOT AND COLD IS ON I GOTTA DANCE TO THIS ONE...that's why I didn't want to blog...))

I have it from a VERY reliable source that the New Kids' bus drivers were signed on from June to January of next year... this tour ends in Feb of '09... so why have bus drivers AFTER the concert? ((The bus driver told them themselves... said they were signed on then said, oops, probably shouldn't have said that. :P))

BUT NOW I'M NOT AFRAID TO SAY IT! DANNY WOOD CONFIRMED IT ON A RADIO SHOW - THERE IS GOING TO BE A SUMMER TOUR IN THE STATES FOR ALL OF US THAT LOVE THEM TO NO END!!!

AND JORDAN SAID "SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!!" AT THE END OF A CONCERT RECENTLY.

IT'S HAPPENING, GIRLS! WE GET OUR SUMMERTOUR!

I'm seriously so excited, I don't know what to do with myself. I'm going to get to go to a concert!! FINALLY! IT'S HAPPENING!

I can't even think about sleeping right now, I wish they would play better music so I could dance more and get the excitement out... I'm having to pause between each flurry of typing to shake the wiggles out of my hands!

ANA!!!! SUMMERTIME IS REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!

I CAN'T EVEN THINK RIGHT NOW!!! I'M SO EXCITED!!!

For those of you who absolutely despise the new kids, I apologize if you've read this far - you probably won't care but it's a big deal for me, I can't even begin to tell you.

This blog is probably nothing but an eye sore so I'll let you all go...

I THINK ABOUT YOU IN THE SUMMERTIME, AND ALL THE GOOD TIMES WE'LL HAVE!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

GET YA HEAD STRAIGHT, GET YA MIND RIGHT, GET AT YOUR GIRL, AND SAY HI TO YOUR MOTHER FOR ME!

~L

((finall, danceable music!! PEACE!))

Light On vs. Crush (Battle of the Davids)

So... it's been a while since I've given you all review... at least one worth reading. I know I keep promising you a Max Payne review, and I'm probably starting to sound a bit like a politician, but I swear they aren't empty promises, I'm going to deliver - I swear. I just want to give it a good, rounded, well researched review.

Today, however, you are getting a review... sort of a compare and contrast, if you will. I've been listening to a lot of music lately - mostly Christmas stuff, because I really like Christmas music, and it seemed somewhat okay to start listening to it with Halloween out of the way... and for whatever reason, Christmas music has always gotten me in the mood for Thanksgiving... but music for the most part is a staple in my life. I've been digging around for new stuff, because I'm making a CD for a friend, and I usually ask people to send stuff my way if they find anything they like... so, today I was checking to see if I had any new songs sent my way, and instead found an e-mail asking me to go vote the NKOTB's new video for "Single" as #1 in MTV's top 20 video countdown. I thoroughly enjoy the video - not just because I love the New Kids, but because I am a fan of editing. Anything that is edited so well that it sends chills down my spine deserves a nod where I'm concerned, and "Single" does that in spades, so I had no problem voting it to the #1 spot. As I did so, however, I looked at the videos that "Single" was up against, and upon doing this, I noticed that "Crush" and "Light On" were on the list.

Now, I'm a fairly big David Cook fan, and as such I've been made aware of the "Battle of the Davids" that's been going on. Both Cook and Archuleta released their singles at the same time, and I've listened to both of them... so I felt it only fair to watch both videos as well. As an on looker in this war - I'm not really involved, because I'll be the first to tell you that both are extremely talented, I just prefer Cook's image over Archuleta's - I decided I wanted to give you all a weighed and thorough review on both the songs AND the videos.

THE SONGS:

Like I stated before, music is a staple in my life. I listen to more old stuff than I do new stuff, so I have a number of songs done by multiple artists... because of the way I judge music, I usually have a problem choosing one version over the other when it comes to good covers (for instance, I couldn't tell you who did a better job with "Little Drummer Boy" if forced to choose between Aly&A.J. or Jordan Knight)... which is why I was extremely glad that the sounds of "Crush" and "Light On" were so different - made it easier to pick out things I liked and didn't like.

"Light On" - David Cook's first single caught me by surprise. Normally, it takes a while for an American Idol winner's album to come out, so having Cook's single so quickly was shocking. This was good, though, because I approached the single without all the expectations I usually have of an AI debut single. Having it out so quickly and catch me by surprise allowed me to be extremely open minded - my opinion of the song would not be weighed down by the anxiety of waiting for a song, the expectations that come with anticipation... but I feel that, even if I HAD gone into this song with expectations, "Light On" would have easily exceeded them.

The pacing is slow and thoughtful - reminiscent of Cook's performance of "Time Of My Life." It starts out simple enough - subtle guitar backing Cook's vocals. As the song carries on, Cook's vocals become stronger and are backed by a more powerful band arrangement, pulling from the rock image he created during his time on the show. For the second verse, the band pulls back, once again giving way to a simple arrangement and allowing Cook's vocals to lead the song into another powerful chorus.

His voice doesn't fail at it's leading role, either - soaked with passion, Cook leads one to believe in the song, understand it, and relate. It just... fits.

The lyrics are poetic at the very least, and absolutely beautiful... but not so beautiful that the rock song genre would kill them. On the contrary, the lyrics suit the feel of the song perfectly, further assisting Cook's vocals to lead the song, as well as supplying it with the passion that makes a single become a hit.

The song is not just a safe choice for a single, but a smart one. If AI didn't do it already, "Light On" serves to catapult Cook's first album to the top of the charts upon it's release. One can only hope the rest of the album is just as amazing.

"Crush" - Archuleta's first single caught me by surprise, as well - I didn't expect both Davids to release their singles so close together. "Crush" also caught me by surprise, because the piano that led the song off seemed a bit more up tempo than it should sound for a David Archuleta ballad. Like Cook's single, the song starts out slower at first, then picks up tempo on the chorus. A very similar structure, but substance wise, "Crush" lacks what "Light On" had in plethora: reality. Archuleta's single seems much more electronic - using a piano backed by a studio beat. The drum rhythm reflects that of a drum machine, and the guitar laid in the chorus sounds just as fake.

Archuleta's vocals are good, but lacking. His performances on American Idol showed the world how well he could sing, so to put out something less than what he is capable of just leaves the vocals sounding... empty at best. It lacks the passion needed to push the album, and doesn't reflect as strongly on the listener's emotions.

That doesn't mean the song is BAD, it's just... reminiscent of a One Hit Wonder.

The lyrics don't save it, either - poetic at BEST, "Crush" is Archuleta's "Invisible" - Clay Aiken's hit got his album some sales, but wasn't enough to make the album memorable. Not to mention, both have the same stalker undertones. A safe choice for a single, but not as smart when looked at in the long run. If "Crush" gives us any idea of what Archuleta's album will be like, the outlook is grim. True, it shows that Archuleta can sing more than a normal ballad, but also shows that he has yet to acquire the umph needed to get him some recognition.

THE VERDICT: Screaming teenagers may buy Archuleta's album, but there won't be enough of them to justify a second. Cook's album will appeal to a larger audience, and has the makings of a truly great musical masterpiece. When listening to the songs alone, Cook wins by a landslide.

THE VIDEOS:

Being a fan of music in general, I know what it's like to have a great song backed by an even better music video. The ability to highlight a song with wonderful scenes and pump an amazing arrangement with brilliant cinematography is an art that many have mastered. Many, however, have also failed... and it sucks when that happens, as well. Music, as well as the videos that couple it, is best when moving. As one who has been well versed in music, I feel it safe to say that I know the joys of watching a hit like "Tonight" be attached to a video that, on a bad day, can make me smile up a storm, as well as the disappointment when a song like "Picture to Burn" is stuck to a video that fails to get the point of the song across.

"Light On" - Where Cook's song succeeded in listening, it almost fails in visual.

The music video tells the traditional story of the girl with the jock who doesn't care about her, and the lowly bus boy that loves her more than anything. The "you don't belong with him, you belong with me," vibe is there, but doesn't seem to fit as well as you would think with the song.

However - it IS artistic. The chorus of the song talks about leaving a light on - something I rely on to get home. This idea is woven into the song in a very crafty way, leading to an obvious, yet unpredictable use at the end.

Another thing that stands out about the video is the fact that Cook doesn't use himself as the object of the story - a move that earns him respect. There are scenes of him singing the song with his band, but the body of the video - the story - doesn't involve him. He's merely singing the tune to someone else's story, and it gives the video a little more meaning... and what successes like Jordan Knight, Alison Michalka, Zac Efron, and Amy Grant, had to learn, Cook already possesses: Camera presence. He seems comfortable and natural in the video, so kudos to him for that.

The song does end up tying into the video more than one would initially see, but it's the initial reaction that matters - the initial hook, and "Light On" doesn't have it. If the song itself wasn't amazing at the least, the video wouldn't even warrant a nod.

"Crush" - The video for Crush reflects a lot of the same vibes as the song. Archuleta uses himself as the focus of the video, not really delving below the surface of the lyrics, but delivering them at face value. He is a prepubescent youngin, vying for the affections of a friend. His camera presence is lacking - Archuleta cheeses up his camera time, much like a young Jordan Knight did in the 80's, but without the charm, body, and moves. As opposed to laughing at Archy, commenting on how cute he is, you're stuck feeling uncomfortable, watching him try to sell his emotions. Archuleta tries to relay passion with his mannerisms, and it doesn't fit the emptiness of the song. The idea of the video is the same - you aren't supposed to be with the jerk you're with, you're supposed to be with me... however, there is nothing really woven into the song and the video that locks them together.

Having said that - the video fits the audience it's meant to reach - young, squealing girls. Taken at face value, the song and video couple together well, the song playing the part of narrator for the fairytale playing out before you. Very much what "I'll Be Loving You Forever" was for the New Kids - but without the undertones that launched it to the top of the charts.

THE VERDICT: "Crush" is a far better video for one that doesn't wish to pick it apart, a much better fit for a top 20 countdown, but both videos are extremely lacking.

And that's it... say hi to your mother for me.

We made history! (And a New Kids wallpaper!)

First things first!! I made a couple New Kids wallpapers... The one above is on my desktop, the other one is simply another version of the same pictures with different effects. I was soooo bored, and wanted to see how many pictures I had. It's mostly Donnie, Joey, and Jordan... but there IS some Danny and Jon in there, promise. lol. This is why I love Picasa... you just throw everything in there and it organizes it for you... SO cool!

**UPDATE**
I can't get the other wallpaper to post because it HATES me... today is NOT a good blog day. *sigh* I promise, my next blog will have links, and substance... I really am sorry for how LAME this blog is. Please don't stop reading because of it.

Also - we've finally made history!!! For the first time, in the history of America, we have a Chief of Staff with only 9 fingers!!! THAT'S RIGHT - Rahm Emanuel, Chief of Staff elect, only has 9 fingers. He's missing his left middle finger... how awesome, huh?? I heard we made history some other way, too... but I can never remember what that was for... :P For the first time in forever, I really don't have a lot to talk about... how lame is that??

Only a few more weeks until I go on vacation - should be going to Nevada, then New Mexico... that'll make for a GREAT blog, and plenty of pictures as well! :P

Man, I'm lame today... but at least you guys get SOMETHING, right? yay. Ha, I'm really REALLY disappointed at how lame this blog post is. I could have sworn I had much more to talk about!! Honestly, you guys, I would NOT have started this blog if I knew I was going to be lame as all git out.

*twiddles thumbs*

There's gotta be SOMETHING I can talk about....

*twiddles thumbs some more*

**UPDATE**
I feel like I should say this... how awesome are the words to "Stay the Same?" Joey Mac gets a gold star for that song... I feel special when I hear it - I wanna cry.... it's such a self esteem boost - Ana, I can see why you love Joey so much... outside of his looks. :)

The song is on my playlist, over there
Enter text here.← you should listen to it if you haven't already. It's a great song. This blog still sucks...

Well, craptastic. This sucks. PIC SPAM! YAY!

YAY NEW KIDS!

I'm so sorry that this post sucks... I'll make up for it later.

**UPDATE**
Went to dinner tonight, so you'd think I'd have more to talk about. But, I don't... I'll talk about it tomorrow.

Get ya mind right.

Sears has Lay Away!

lol... sorry, I just wanted a REALLY random title and that seemed to do it. :) It's been 2 days since my last blog... I AM SO SORRY! I know you must all be going through wicked withdrawals!!! I know, I know... I'm a selfish person, I didn't even think about my readers as I went on with my life over these past few days... but I hope you all will forgive me, and we can start anew... :)

I voted on Tuesday... Obama won... don't blame me, I voted Petrelli (I'M JOKING PEOPLE). But congratulations to the democrats, and Mr. Obama. :)

I had jury duty yesterday... interesting experience... I TOOK NOTES THOUGH, GO ME!!!

  • Call was at 10 am. (Yes, I'm a theater geek and use terms like "call," get over it. :P)
  • 9:55am I arrived at the courthouse and stood in line for 12 minutes... in the cold... without a jacket cuz I couldn't find my hoodie... lame. We went through the medal detectors, and I was a LOSER and left my iPod cord in my bag... they didn't like that. Apparently, iPod cords are....dangerous?? I wasn't told WHY it was a problem that I have it, just that the guy looked at it and said "yeah, that could... mmhmm." Then he asked me to return it to my car. First off, I didn't have a car present... secondly... um... I was NOT going through that line again. I wanted to get into a warm room, not stand in the cold again! lol. So I just told him I didn't have a car, and he begrudgedly (WORD OF THE DAY!) let me go through, just told me (rather rudely, I might add) to not take it out of my bag. While this guy was being rude to me and paranoid about my evil iPod cord, he forgot to tell me where to go... which was fine, I just followed the other confused people with Jury slips upstairs to the Jury room... it was SO full, there were no chairs... the lady scanned my thing and I went waaaaaaaaaay into the back, in the break room, and finally found a chair, and started reading.
  • 10:10am a strange alarm went off... it sounded like a fire alarm, but no one seemed to react to it, and the guards just stood there, so I stayed put, and continued to read.
  • 10:20am some woman came onto the intercom and gave us orientation. A couple of us laughed at what she said... some things were funny, some were just absurd... all of it was fairly obvious. BUT, I had been reading a rather dull part in my book so, despite the fact that Annmaria Bolyn's bottomless pit of wickedness always fascinates me, the break was welcome. (I did, however, make a mental note - I don't think SUMMONSES is a word... but I could be wrong)
  • 10:36am Judge Ash came on the intercom and swore us all in... all 200 of us. YES, there were TWO HUNDRED of us. She told us it was a murder case, and should only last from the 13th - 21st of November... which works out perfectly for me. I won't say anything more, because I don't know what I'm allowed to say, and what I'm not allowed to say, and I'd like to not go to jail. lol.
  • 10:50am we recieved our questionnaires, and began to fill them out. I was amazed by the thickness of the packet, and some of the questions were VERY confusing... about half way through filling this sucker out, the alarm went off again. I change my mind - I think it sounded more like a storm trooper's blaster than a fire alarm.
  • 11:40am I finished my questionnaire. YES - it took me almost an hour. I think things out... and elaborate a lot... goes hand in hand with being overly annalytical and open minded. Not to mention, that sucker was looooooooong. I'm pretty sure I answered a lot of the same question. Come on, now, let's proof read these before handing them out, it makes all of our lives easier... lol. I turned it in, and they asked me to come back on the 13th. We were ALL asked back. Nice. *sigh* So I'm not done. Bummer.
  • 11:54am I was outside... nothing REALLY big, just something that made me laugh - I was standing next to this little girl and her grandma. They spoke spanish... I could understand most of what they said, but not all. Everytime the wind blew, the grandma would wrap the little girl up in her coat and go "ai ai ai frio frio frio!" to which the little girl would reply "ai ai!!" It was adorable.
I'm feeling a lot better... still a TAD yucky, but nothing I can't deal with. I still felt gross Tuesday and a bit on Wednesdya, but today I feel better. I think that getting out and doing stuff really helped... and being told I was "super cute" on more than one occasion on Wednesday really helped. :P 50% of all illnesses are mental... :)

You all ARE still getting your Max Payne review, I PROMISE you that... I've been doing research, and I saw something on ShowTime that made me smile - it was a "behind the scenes: Making the Movie" featurette (I always feel special saying that word... professional...lol), and it showed how they used as much real stuff, as opposed to CGI, as they could. The fact that they shyd away from CGI for a movie like Max Payne makes me smile... I seriously don't think this movie is going to be as bad as everyone says it is. IT'S COMING, I PROMISE... say hi to your mother for me. :)

Last blog post I let you all know that I had been Knighted - I have to admit, Jordan Knight grew into his looks... and his fans are persistant. I didn't stand a chance... but... shortly after that, I saw a music video... not him with the New Kids, but by himself... honestly... WOW. HE CAN DANCE. I'm not going to lie to you, dancing is a huge weakness for me... why do you think I'm so in love with Zac Efron??? lol. So... I'm pretty much in LOVE with Jordan Knight right now... just a heads up... still LOVE Donnie, he'll always be the most important to me, but... Jordan... wow... the dancing sold it, but I also noticed in the music video that he learned how to handle himself better - well, less cheesy...ish - in front of a camera. Don't take my word for it - compare his performance in the "Never Let You Go" music video, to that in the "Give It To You" music video... he's much more sexy, and less cheesy, in GITY. Yeah... I'm twitterpated right now... lol! The best part was, when I told my friend Casey... the convo went like this:

ME: ....I'm in loooooooooove
CASEY: Jordan?
ME:....yes....
CASEY: I knew it.

She was the one who was really pushing for me to ditch my Donnie avatar (which will NEVER HAPPEN, CASEY), and she told me from the beginning she was gonna convert me. haha. CURSE YOU FOR BEING AN AMAZING DANCER, JORDAN!!

I've also recently decided that all Olympic swimmers should have a blogger account, and let all of us read it... I've been following Garrett Weber-Gale's blog, and it really supplies a completely different aspect and love to not only olympic swimming, but the people who participate in it. To me, it shows a lot about Garrett's character that he's willing to take the time to give us all a glimpse into his life. And I love reading it! All swimmers should do this! And, Garrett's pretty awesome, he replies to comments left on his blog, as well. :P If you guys haven't checked it out yet, you should! And, Garrett, IF you're reading this - thanks for everything! Keep it up, and I'll keep reading!! (And I really am working on leaving you shorter comments! lol)

I was planning on giving you all a music review as well - a few days ago I told you all about a Canadian band called Down Here... I gave their album a more thourough listening and decided... I really, REALLY like them. I wanted to give you a review, but everytime I think about what to say, this is what my brain produces:

"Check out the new album from Down Here! It's seriously jflkdasjflkdsmclkanlwjafjaslkjclhneoiwagjkdsajfklda!!!" Because there are NO words that describe how great that album is... JUST LISTEN TO IT. :)

The last thing I want to say is directed at all my Merced based readers:

There's a hot dog place on the corner of N and 16th called "The Dog House." Used to be a mexican place, but now it's a hot dog place... and it's SO good. It's a cute little place - there's this great statue out front of a hot dog putting ketchup on his head that just SCREAMS photo op. The whole restaurant is Nascar themed, there's Nascar stuff EVERYWHERE... and the BEST thing is this sign inside that says:

"Practice safe lunch - use CONDIMENTS!"

and the guy on it looks like the man from the Enzyte commercials... it was worth a good laugh. :)

So, if you like hot dogs - and who DOESN'T?? They've got a cool shape, and they're full of fiber - then check the place out. It's REAL good, and the people that work there are real nice. :)

That's about all - keep sending stuff! :) That blog is comin, too!

Get ya mind right.
